Sewing Angels!!

Yesterday was my get together with the "Sewing Angels" nothing but fun! We had our first field trip, so off in the SUV we went! First stop was our local thrift shop where I think everyone got some thing. I saw a large crochet hook, fabric, a key chain with feathers, and a top in our basket. I think someone said "I don't like this place" !! How can that be! Come on, you have to be a thrift shopper to get this sewing thing down kids!!! They were biting at the bit to get to lunch and then Joann's.
So I guided them to the flannels where they each got to pick two different fabrics to make themselves a pillowcase! Everyone picked some great combo's!

Back to the house, and for the next two hours we hurried and got them done. One sweet angel cut a hole in hers, so she didn't get to finish hers. I didn't have time to redo it so I'll have her come back next week to do a new one.

It's all good and I have to remember not to take myself to seriously and let them learn at their own pace!!

Blues Traveler

That's what we did Wednesday evening, went to see "Blues Traveler" at the Britt. It was hot at this outdoor garden theatre, but good music, good ice creme and good company!!! Willie Nelson's son came out first and did a fabulous job and boy does he sound like his dad, very cool! I got to go upfront and close, where I like to be when we go to the events.

Once a groupie always a groupie!!!! And don't forget to play it loud man!!!!

Hot Hot Hot!

That's what it gonna be! I think over a 100 degrees, wow! So I'm watering everything that needs to be watered. I need to do some weeding, I mean "US", needs to do some weeding!!

In The Garden

This years garden is coming along and since we had a cool June it's going a little slow. We divided the strawberry's to a new patch and planted all the fruit trees and trying to get rid of the weeds! We had all the snow peas we wanted this year as I planted lots. To much squash was also planted, but I can give it all to our church food bank on Tuesdays. We're trying to eat each meal as fresh as possible, Lot's of greens to kick up our immune system.

Sewing Angels

The "Sewing Angels" were at it again! They finished their skirts and shorts for the only young man in the group. They all came out real cute and Sophie and Aries came to class yesterday wearing their projects, awesome. We made book bags yesterday and finished them up right as class ended, so they got to take them home, Next week we're going on a feild trip to the fabric store and then lunch, wow, I'm brave, aren't I. A couple of girls didn't come so we missed them and hopefully the'll be back soon. I heard something about being grounded, YIKES!!

Be good so you guys won't miss class, cause I really miss you!!!

Sweet Ride!!

Are you having a great summer? Me too!!!! Gardens doing great, hubby's doing great and God is GOOD!!!

Went up up Portland and bought a new (To Me) SUV, so cool! I loved my other car until the dude hit me. Total loss so up to Portland we went. Found a awesome XC90 Volvo, so excited! Fun to drive still getting use to sitting up higher.

My Hero.....

This beautiful young man is my hero!! He's sweet, caring and most of all awesome, can't you tell that I LOVE this kid!!! He's been gone about a week to diabetes camp, camp for kids learning all kinds of stuff. Stuff that he'll be able to really focus on and take care of himself someday. And of course still have fun, after all he's still a kid!!

His mom drove him five hours away then had to let him go for a week without talking to him, seeing him, so she's my hero too! I can't imagine!!

Pray for Austin that he will be brave and just shine!!

There was a BBQ and fellowship's being made among us and God is good!!!

Thursday Fun!!!

I've decided to start my summer sewing with some of the girls that go to my church and my niece and of course Lexi!! From 10 to 2 we're in sewing heaven! I had prayer with these beautiful girls for me, their teacher, to show them a great spirit and patience from me and to allow me to enjoy the experience without perfection. It worked, God is so good! I'm kinda of a control freak and wanted to do everything my way but allowed the girls to pick their own fabric choices and style of skirt they wanted to do. I had two big bins of vintage sheets from them to pick from and they came up with some pretty combos for their first project. Once a week, on Thursday we'll keep getting together to do fun stuff. I also think their will be field trips to the mall, movies and maybe the water slide too!! The girls range from 8 to 13 and the older girls are helping the younger girls with their projects, so that's good too. We're so confident that their finished skirts are going to be so pretty that we're going to enter them in the county fair! Yes we are!!! Nothing like a few ribbons to boost their confidence!!

Los Lonley Boys

We went to a fab concert at the Britt here in Southern Oregon to see the "Los Lonely Boys" !! It didn't start off good because it wouldn't stop raining. I packed some plastic ponchos for our selves and Friends, before we went, it didn't help. When they announced for our own safety, better wait it out in your cars because of lighting strikes, that was enough for my friend Kate. So we're all drenched to the bone, started for the car. Filled picnic basket and lots of unopened wine coolers found the car and then the parking ticket on the window!!! How could this happen!! Rain and a ticket!! We spent so much on the tickets and Britt never ever gives rain checks, so the evening was going to be a washout. When we got home we just changed to dry clothes and wore giant plastic bags with arm holes cut out and went back!! Not to pretty, it messed up my cute outfit.

I'm so glad we went back, they were sooo good, play their famous song "Heaven", super great guys! I believe they we're so humbled that so many waited it out, they gave an extra fab performance. Very talented old soul singers and players, they had been playing with their dad's band since they were wee boys and now look at them!!

It never stopped raining through the whole concert, but the plastic bags keep us semi dry.

I just love our small town, you just never know who your going to run into. As we were waiting for something to happen, we saw my SIL and her hubby, never knowing that they were going too!! Spent the remaining evening with them and bebopped together!!

Yesterday I had a few friends over for lunch! Serenity and her Nana, Linda!! Had a fun afternoon with catching up with each other lives, looking at our garden and me showing her what new stuff I've been sewing. I made this little dress for her!!!

Hubby's day off so let the fence making begin! Wait, I think it's going to rain AGAIN!!! Rainy all week. I'm sure it won't last and we (me) will begin to complain how hot it is around here!! It's kind of startling when I go to the back yard and see that wide open space between our yards. I forget there's no fence and run around in my PJ's and get caught by the neighbors and stand there chatting like I'm dressed!!! Now if I can only keep their lovely doggies out of my yard!!

This what I did on Sunday, went for a sweet ride on my favorite kid's mini bike! Did some more cleaning up at MIL's place, getting it ready for the market. So I took a short break and said"Hey Sophie, let me try that thing" and I did!

Here's a few pic's of what I see almost every morning here at home!!!

I've been just wandering around here, healing from surgery, getting my get-a-long back to normal. Making messes and more messes, so today I've better clean it up, looking like a fabric store here after a huge sale!

Yesterday I stopped at a fabric store closing in my small town, Jo Ann's takes them out every time, no one can beat their prices. But you don't get the good quality fabrics like you do at a quilt shop. Bought a few things, some great Amy Butler patterns a 50% off and some Alex Henry fabrics. She must off not been doing that well because some of the fabrics have a 2003 date on them.

Hubby's been preparing the house to be painted before it turns 112 degrees out here. We're painting it the same color because I can't bear the "What Color" pressure! Stuff like that never bother me before, always an adventure to see what new colors I could put together, now it's just get her painted before it starts pealing!!

I've got some vintage patterns from the 60's to make some of the pheasant blouses that you see all over every ones blog, so I'll cut one out today out of the softest red fabric, super light weight. We'll see , it's been ages since I made anything for myself! I finished a couple sun dresses for my 8 year old niece, so she needs to come over and get them! Thats one way to get her over! I also have 3 vintage dolls and clothes for her to pick from and the other two will stay here so she'll have something to play with when she's over. I'm excited that the still likes dolls because girls her age give that up to soon!!

Congrats to our nephew, Carl, as he just graduated from law school!! We are so proud of you!!!

OPPS!!!!

Well it happened AGAIN!! Some guy hit my car, while I was in it! Yesterday on my way home from some pre-op stuff I was going merrily along my way when some 90 year old guy ran a stop sign and BAM, hit my car!! I hurt my arm and re hurt my neck from another guy who hit my car about 5 years ago!! Better today, just stiff. He hobbled out of his car and was shocked that it was his fault, the nerve! I don't want to sound bitter but I hope they take his licence away, he's not a safe driver! I had a couple of witnesses so I got that covered. The old guy got the ticket and zoomed off like he was mad or something!! I have (HAD) this sweet low riding Volvo since 2000 and now I'm afraid it will be totaled. In a way I haven't felt safe in that car in a while because of soooo many near misses, people just don't see that low riding white car!! We're in the market for a SUV, any idea's anyone!! I want to sit up high, so I can see them hurling their cars at me!!! I was going to pass this sweet car to our daughter, but we'll get something safer when the time comes. On top of all that the side air bag didn't go off, just like it didn't go off when that guy hit me 5 years ago, I wonder how hard you have to get hit to get those things to work!! Anyway I'm carless untill this gets resolved, hopefully soon!!

We had a great time with my family in Denver, but happy to be home!! Got back last Thursday but just feeling rested up. We use to fly at a whim now with old age creeping up, it takes a lot! Got to have a Mother's Day lunch at my sisters and dinner at my nephew's home. I also got to hold the new baby too! Ashlynn is her name and 3 months old, so cute.

Went to my favorite quilt shop http://www.greatamericanquilt.com/ and bought some of Amy Butler's fabric that I don't have and two new patterns. Of course another apron pattern! A girl can't have enough apron patterns can she!

Went to some great thrift shops, found all kinds of treasures. We had to only ship three boxes home unlike last year it was 9 or 10!! YIKES!!! As soon as they get here I'll take some pics of my finds. I think I even bought some vintage sheets still in the pkg. and some great vintage patterns.

We've arrived in Colorado to be with my mom for mom's day!!! Working on her "Honey Do List" to help out with things around the house that hard for her to do. She's 81 and still does allot for herself, I just keep telling her to keep moving! She's German so she's got that on her side and still keeps up a two story home! I hope I can keep doing half as much as she does at that age!! Went thrift shopping yesterday and a few other stops, and getting ready to go out again today.

"Tie One On" Apron Contest

To celebrate the summer (apologies to my Australian and New Zealand friends) the new theme is Pie Makin' Apron. This is quite open-ended. You pretty much can make any type of apron for this, but here's the catch—you also have to submit your favorite pie recipe. And, it's not mandatory, but including a pie in the photo you submit would be super cute, too. I have done a similar theme before with my Apron and Recipe Theme and it was great. There were so many wonderful recipes submitted—I still use some of them regularly.
So, to re-cap, what you need to send me is:
photo of your handmade apron (a jpeg, with your blog link if you have one and info about your apron, if you wish.)
a recipe of your favorite pie (this can just be typed in the e-mail you send me with the jpeg.)
I will put the recipes in the gallery with the photo of your apron, just like I did with the Apron and Recipe theme. You have 2 months for this—the jpegs need to be sent to me by July 1st.
Cool! I am super excited. And please feel free to send weird pie recipes. I love them, the weirder the better. Not gross, but you know what I mean. You can get inspired by pie recipes online. I really like reading all these types. Crazy!
